History of the University of Kelaniya

The University of Kelaniya has a distinguished history that dates back to 1875, originating from the Vidyalankara Pirivena. Established as a centre of learning for Buddhist monks, it played a pivotal role in preserving and advancing traditional education in Sri Lanka. The institution significantly contributed to the national movement and intellectual resurgence during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
